How much will training cost me?
Depending upon which training school you choose to attend, you have the option of receiving training reimbursement. If you choose Stevens Driving Academy of Texas or a select partner, a large portion of your overall tuition cost will be covered. If you attend another approved training institution (with a 120 hour minimum training program), Stevens will offer you tuition reimbursement of up to $6,000. We provide 100% financing to our students, eliminating additional up-front costs.
Is there housing available if I attend Stevens Driving Academy of Texas?
Low-cost housing is available if needed and can be financed without interest. Housing can also be offered in Denver, Colorado. Housing is not available for those who attend the Houston training school.
Are my meals paid for by Stevens while I am attending Stevens Driving Academy of Texas?
Payment for meals is the student’s responsibility. If needed, Stevens will provide a no-interest loan of $70 per week to cover the cost of meals (only applicable to the Dallas training school).
How do I get to Stevens Driving Academy of Texas?
If you are cannot provide your own transportation, Stevens will send you a prepaid bus ticket to get you to Dallas, Texas. Stevens offers bus tickets, plane tickets, and fuel reimbursement for students who require traveling assistance.
Can Stevens guarantee that I will receive my CDL?
Stevens cannot guarantee that you will receive a CDL. However, Stevens will provide a highly-acclaimed training program that will teach you everything you need to learn to succeed as a professional driver. CDL education seminars coupled with OTR instruction have proven to be beneficial to countless drivers in the past.
Do I need a CDL before driving for Stevens?
By law, Stevens cannot hire you to drive a commercial vehicle without a current CDL. However, Stevens will provide all of the training necessary to earn your certification.
Am I required to have a HAZMAT endorsement on my CDL?
Although it is beneficial to have a HAZMAT endorsement on your CDL, it is not required. See Chapter 9 of the CDL handbook for more information about the HAZMAT endorsement.
How often will I receive a paycheck?
Stevens company drivers receive payment within 48 hours (or two business days) from the time that the load verification paperwork is turned in. Pay will either be mailed, wired, or sent to direct deposit. Stevens will accommodate your personal payment preferences.
How do I get paid?
Stevens uses Transflo to pay our drivers on time. Transflo is located at most truck stops nationwide and it allows you to scan and send your trips to Stevens, so you get paid quicker. Transflo is more reliable than mail and it takes 48 hours (or two business days) to receive.
How is my pay calculated?
Drivers are paid based on the number of miles driven. Stevens has one of the highest miles-per-driver averages in the industry (the average solo driver drives 2,600-3,100 miles/week). Plus, drivers receive numerous opportunities to increase pay by taking advantage of extra pick-ups or stop-offs, lumper fees, and by closely monitoring personal miles per gallon average with the fuel bonus program.
Does Stevens provide layover pay?
Drivers receive $35 per day for typical layovers. While waiting for a trailer in Laredo, Texas, drivers receive $75 per day in layover pay.
Do I get paid while I go through the training program?
You do not get paid while training to earn your Commercial Driver’s License (CDL). However, once you have received your CDL, Stevens will pay you $350 per week for up to 8 weeks while you gain valuable over-the-road driving experience with a Stevens certified driver trainer. During that time, you can earn an additional $100 extra per week if you choose to load or unload freight.
Does Stevens pay for extra pick-ups or stop-offs?
Stevens drivers are paid $15 for the 2nd and 3rd pick-ups or stop-offs and $25 for each pick-up or stop-off after that.
Do I get paid for all the miles that I drive?

How often can I expect to get home?
Stevens drivers get home on a regular basis depending on the type of route you are assigned. Local routes get drivers home every night. Regional and dedicated routes get drivers home every 7 to 10 days. Drivers on national routes get home every 3 to 4 weeks with 3 to 4 days off. For every 7 days that you are on the road, drivers will receive 1 day off.
What if I need to get home for an emergency or special occasion?
Stevens Transport’s driver manager team will work with you to ensure that you get home for any emergency or special occasion. Family is a priority at Stevens Transport and we will do everything in our power to get you home if needed.
Does Stevens have forced dispatch?
Company drivers are assigned loads based on greatest utilization, efficiency, and profitability for both Stevens and the driver.
Does Stevens have forced routing?
Stevens assigns drivers with the most efficient routes that promote safety, fuel cost reduction (Opti-Stop), and travel time.
Does Stevens provide toll cards or passes to bypass weigh stations?
Stevens provides E-Z Passes for most U.S. toll roads and Pre-Passes to bypass weigh stations. It usually takes around 6 months to qualify for dedicated driving status.
